光開關是一種光路控制器件,起著控制光路和轉換光路的作用。在光通信應用中具有重要作用。 光開關主要應用于：光傳輸系統中的多路光監控、LAN 多光源/探測器自動換接以及光傳感多點動態監測系統；光測試系統中用于光纖、光器件、網絡和野外工程光纜測試；光器件裝調。
